so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. Then you, being rooted and grounded in love, — Eph 3:17 BSB
There’s a peculiar shrub that grows abundantly in the West, particularly in Texas. It’s called the mesquite tree. Though it looks slim and unremarkable, its roots grow thick and strong underground, making it incredibly useful for building solid pavements. The city of San Antonio is said to be paved with these roots.
This reminds me of Christians whose growth is mostly unseen, deep in God. These are the people God uses for the foundation of His work, like the hidden roots that form the pavements of the eternal city of God.
Deeper, deeper let the living waters flow;
Blessed Holy Spirit! River of Salvation!
All Thy fulness let me know.
