A Strong Heart

Wait patiently for the LORD; be strong and courageous. Wait patiently for the LORD! — Ps 27:14 BSB

Wait! Wait! Let your waiting be on the Lord! He is worth waiting for, and He never lets down those who wait for Him.

As you wait, keep your spirits up. Expect a great deliverance and be ready to praise God for it when it comes.

The promise that should lift you up is found in the middle of the verse—“He shall strengthen your heart.” This promise addresses exactly where you need help. If your heart is strong, the rest of your being will work properly. The heart needs calming and cheering, and both will come if it’s strengthened. A strong heart brings rest, joy, and vitality to the whole person.

No one else can reach the secret core of life, the heart, and pour strength into it. Only the One who made it can make it strong. God is full of strength, so He is able to share it with those who need it. Be brave! The Lord will strengthen you, and you will find peace in the storm and joy in the midst of sorrow.

The one who wrote these lines can say with David—“Wait, I say, on the Lord.” I do indeed say it. My long and deep experience has shown me that it’s good to wait upon the Lord.
