Thorough Cleansing

I will also sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols. — Ezek 36:25 BSB

What a wonderful promise! He who has cleansed us with the blood of Jesus will also wash us with the water of the Holy Spirit. God Himself has said it, and so it will be: "You shall be clean." Lord, we feel and mourn our uncleanness, but it brings us great comfort to hear You declare that we will be made clean. Oh, how we long for You to bring this to pass quickly!

He will deliver us from our worst sins. The constant rise of unbelief, the deceitful desires that war against our souls, the vile thoughts of pride, and the devil’s attempts to blaspheme God’s name—all these will be purged away, never to return.

He will also cleanse us from all our idols, whether they are made of gold or clay, whether they are impure loves or excessive attachments to things that are good in themselves. Whatever we have idolized will either be broken off from us, or we will be broken away from it.

It is God Himself who promises to do this, so we can trust that it will surely happen. Cleansing is a covenant blessing, and this covenant is ordered in all things and is guaranteed.
