God First, Then Extras

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. — Matt 6:33 BSB

The Bible opens with the words: "In the beginning, God." Let your life begin the same way. Seek first the kingdom of God, making it your place of belonging, and His righteousness, making it your standard of living. Everything else will come from the Lord without you having to worry about it. Everything you need for life and godliness “will be added to you.”

What an incredible promise this is! God will provide for your food, clothing, and shelter as you focus on seeking Him. You take care of His business, and He will take care of yours. Just like when you buy something important and the packaging comes with string and paper as extras, all the things we need for this life will be thrown in with the kingdom of God. If you’re an heir of salvation, you won’t starve; and if you clothe your soul with the righteousness of God, He won’t leave your body without clothing. So let go of your worries. Focus entirely on seeking the Lord. Covetousness is poverty, and worry is misery. Trusting in God is wealth, and being like Him is a heavenly inheritance. Lord, I seek You—please reveal Yourself to me.
