Doing what God Can Bless
The LORD will decree a blessing on your barns and on everything to which you put your hand; the LORD your God will bless you in the land He is giving you. — Deut 28:8 BSB
If we obey the Lord our God, He will bless what He gives us. Riches aren’t a curse when they are blessed by the Lord. When people have more than they need and start storing it up, greed or hard-heartedness can often follow. But when God’s blessing is on it, it’s different. Wisdom guides how we save, generosity directs how we spend, gratitude keeps our hearts devoted to God, and praise makes our enjoyment sweet. It’s a great gift to have God’s blessing on your savings and investments.
What a privilege we have in the last part of this promise: “The Lord will bless you in all that you set your hand to.” We wouldn’t dare start anything without asking for God’s blessing, and we wouldn’t move forward without prayer and faith. But what a privilege it is to be able to expect the Lord’s help in every endeavor! Some talk about being lucky, but the blessing of the Lord is far better than luck. The favor of influential people is nothing compared to God’s favor. Self-reliance is fine, but the Lord’s blessing is infinitely more valuable than talent, skill, or ingenuity.
