Sanctified Souls Are Satisfied

I will fill the souls of the priests abundantly, and will fill My people with My goodness,” declares the LORD. — Jer 31:14 BSB

Notice the two “my’s” in this verse: “My people shall be satisfied with My goodness.”

The kind of people who are satisfied with God are marked as His own. He takes pleasure in them because they take pleasure in Him. They call Him their God, and He calls them His people. He delights in having them as His portion, and they are content with Him as theirs. There is a mutual exchange of delight between God’s people and their God.

These people are satisfied. What a wonderful thing! Very few people in this world are truly satisfied, no matter what their circumstances are. Their hearts are like the leech that continually cries, “Give, give!” Only those who are sanctified can be satisfied. God must both change our hearts and teach us contentment.

It is no wonder that God’s people are satisfied with His goodness. His goodness has no mixture of evil, His generosity has no limits, His mercy comes without scolding, His love is unchanging, and His favor has no hidden conditions. If God’s goodness can’t satisfy us, what could? If we are still discontent, then something is wrong with our desires if God’s goodness isn’t enough to satisfy them.

Lord, I am satisfied. Blessed be Your name.
