Perfection and Preservation

The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it. — 1 Thess 5:24 BSB

What will He do? He will sanctify us completely. As the previous verse declares, He will continue His work of purification until we are perfect in every part. He will preserve our whole spirit, soul, and body, blameless until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will not allow us to fall from grace or be dominated by sin. These are tremendous blessings, and we should respond with deep adoration for the Giver of such unspeakable gifts.

Who will do this? It is the Lord who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light, out of death in sin into eternal life through Jesus Christ. Only He can accomplish this work. Such perfection and preservation can only come from the God of all grace.

Why will He do it? Because He is faithful—faithful to His own promise to save those who believe; faithful to His Son, whose reward is that His people will be presented faultless before Him; and faithful to the work He began in us when He called us. Our confidence rests not in our own faithfulness, but in the faithfulness of the Lord.

Come, my soul, here is a grand feast to start a dull month. There may be fogs outside, but there should be sunshine within.
