Trust Means Joy

For our hearts rejoice in Him, since we trust in His holy name. — Ps 33:21 BSB

Faith is like a seed that grows into joy. We may not feel that joy right away, but it comes in time. We trust in the Lord during hard times, and eventually, He responds to our trust in such a way that our faith turns into joy. Doubt brings distress, but trust leads to joy in the end.

The confidence the psalmist expresses in this verse is a promise wrapped in faith. Oh, for the grace to take hold of it! Even if we aren’t joyful at this moment, we will be, just as surely as David’s God is our God.

Let’s think about God’s holy character so that we can trust Him more fully and rejoice more easily. He is holy, just, true, gracious, faithful, and unchanging. Isn’t such a God worth trusting? He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and always present—how could we not rely on Him? Yes, let’s trust Him fully, right now, without holding back. Jehovah-Jireh will provide. Jehovah-Shalom will bring peace. Jehovah-Tsidkenu will make us righteous. Jehovah-Shammah will be with us forever. And through Jehovah-Nissi, we will overcome every challenge. Those who know God’s name will trust Him, and those who trust Him will rejoice in Him.
