Fear Only God
So we say with confidence: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” — Heb 13:6 BSB
Because God will never leave us or abandon us, we can be content with what we have. Since the Lord is ours, we are never without a friend, treasure, or home. This assurance makes us feel independent of what others think. With God as our guide, we don’t need to ask for anyone’s permission to live our lives as He leads. We can speak boldly and stand firm in our faith.
If we fear God, we have nothing else to fear. We should stand in awe of Him, so much so that no threat from anyone can shake us. People today can’t do as much harm to us as they could when the apostle wrote these words. The days of burning at the stake are gone, and persecution looks different now. But if the world mocks and scorns us, we shouldn’t be surprised. Those who belong to this world can’t love those who belong to heaven. So what should we do? Endure the world’s scorn. It can’t truly harm us. With God’s help, let’s be bold, and when the world rages, let it rage. We have nothing to fear.
