Presence of Mind

Do not fear sudden danger or the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from the snare. — Prov 3:25-26 BSB

When God brings judgment upon the earth, He doesn’t want His people to be afraid. He hasn’t come to harm but to protect the righteous.

He wants us to show courage. Those of us who enjoy God’s presence should display calmness and confidence. Since the Lord Himself may come suddenly, we should not be surprised by anything sudden. Serenity in the face of unexpected troubles is a precious gift of divine love.

God wants His people to be discerning, understanding that the destruction of the wicked is not a true calamity for the universe. Sin alone is evil; the punishment that follows it is like preserving salt, keeping society from rotting away. We should be far more shocked by the sin that deserves hell than by the hell that results from sin.

In the same way, the Lord’s people should maintain great peace of spirit. Satan and his followers are full of deceit, but those who walk with God will not be caught in their traps. Go on, believer in Jesus, and let the Lord be your confidence.
