One Look from the Lord!

The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Am I not sending you?” — Judg 6:14 BSB

What a look it was that the Lord gave to Gideon! He gazed at him and transformed his discouragement into bravery. If our gaze upon the Lord can save us, what might His gaze upon us accomplish? Lord, look on me today and strengthen me for the tasks and battles ahead.

What a word it was that God spoke to Gideon: “Go.” He wasn’t to hesitate. Gideon might have replied, “How can I go in my weakness?” But God had already spoken, saying, “Go in this your strength.” The Lord’s look had filled him with strength, and now he only needed to use it to deliver Israel from the Midianites. It’s possible that the Lord has more work for me to do than I ever imagined. If He has looked upon me, He has strengthened me. By faith, I must now use the power He has given me. He doesn’t tell me to waste time but to “go” because He has empowered me. What a question the Lord asks me, just as He did Gideon: “Have I not sent you?” Yes, Lord, You have sent me, and I will go in Your strength. With Your command, I will go, knowing that You will bring victory through me.
