It Will Not Be Long

You, too, be patient and strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near. — Jas 5:8 BSB

The final word in the Song of Solomon is, "Make haste, my beloved," and in the last chapters of Revelation, we read, "The Spirit and the Bride say, Come," to which Jesus replies, "Surely I come quickly." Love eagerly anticipates the glorious appearing of the Lord and holds on to the sweet promise, "The coming of the Lord is near." This hope anchors our thoughts about the future. We look ahead with joy through this window of expectation.

This "window of agate" floods the present with light, giving us strength for the work or suffering we face now. Are we weary? Then the nearness of our joy whispers, “Be patient.” Are we disheartened because we don’t yet see the results of our labors? This same truth encourages us again, "Be patient." Do the many temptations we encounter cause us to waver? The certainty of the Lord’s coming speaks to us, saying, “Strengthen your hearts.” Be firm, stable, and steadfast, always abounding in the work of the Lord. Very soon, you will hear the trumpet announcing the arrival of your King. Don’t be afraid. Hold on, for He is coming—perhaps even today.
