He Constantly Abides

Indeed, for the sake of His great name, the LORD will not abandon His people, because He was pleased to make you His own. — 1 Sam 12:22 BSB

God’s choice of His people is the reason He never abandons them. He chose them out of love, and He loves them because He chose them. His own will is the source of their election, and that election guarantees His enduring pleasure in them. For Him to forsake His people would dishonor His name, implying either a mistake in His choice or a change in His love. But God’s love never changes, and He won’t tarnish its glory.

Reflect on His past kindness and rest assured that He won’t leave us now. He made us His people through grace, and He won’t undo that work. He’s done too much for us to abandon us. Jesus died for us—can He forsake those He died for? Since He’s delighted in choosing and saving us, He’ll continue to bless us. Jesus isn’t a fickle lover. He loved His own, and He’ll love them to the end.
