Implicit Trust

For I will surely rescue you so that you do not fall by the sword. Because you have trusted in Me, you will escape with your life like a spoil of war, declares the LORD.’ — Jer 39:18 BSB

See the power of trusting in God. While the great men of Jerusalem fell by the sword, the humble servant Ebed-melech was safe because he placed his trust in the Lord. Why trust in anything less than the One who made everything? It is foolish to put our hope in people or things when we can rely on the Creator Himself. Oh, that we could live by faith in all circumstances, then we would be delivered from all danger. No one has ever trusted in the Lord in vain, and no one ever will.

The Lord says, “I will surely deliver you.” Pay attention to that word “surely.” When everything else is uncertain, God’s care for His people is always sure. He is the protector of those who trust Him. Under His wings, there is safety, even when danger is all around. Can we hold onto this promise with full confidence? If so, in our present struggles, we will find that it stands firm. Instead of relying on friends, our own wisdom, or hopeful signs, let’s rest in God’s simple promise: “Because you have put your trust in Me.” Dear reader, try this way of trusting the Lord, and once you do, you’ll stay on this path for the rest of your life. It is as sweet as it is sure.
