Christ and His Children
Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush Him and to cause Him to suffer; and when His soul is made a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, and the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand. — Isa 53:10 BSB
Our Lord Jesus did not die in vain. His death was sacrificial—He died as our substitute because death was the penalty for our sins. Since God accepted His sacrifice, He has saved those for whom He offered His life. By His death, He became like a grain of wheat that produces much fruit. There must be a succession of children for Jesus; He is “the Father of the everlasting age.” He will say, “Here I am, and the children You have given me.”
A man is honored through his sons, and Jesus has His quiver full of these arrows of the mighty. A man is represented in his children, and so is Christ represented in Christians. In his offspring, a man’s life seems to continue and expand; in the same way, the life of Jesus continues in believers.
Jesus lives because He sees His descendants. He watches over us, delights in us, and recognizes us as the fruit of His suffering. Let us rejoice that our Lord doesn’t miss out on the results of His sacrifice and that He will never stop finding joy in the harvest of His death. The eyes that once wept for us now look at us with pleasure. Yes, He gazes upon those who are looking to Him. Our eyes meet! What a joy this is!
