A Man Without Fear

“I will surely be with you,” God said, “and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, all of you will worship God on this mountain.” — Exod 3:12 BSB

Of course, if the Lord sent Moses on a mission, He wouldn’t let him go alone. The tremendous risk involved and the great power required would make it absurd for God to send a single, poor Hebrew to confront the most powerful king in the world and then leave him on his own. It’s unthinkable that a wise God would pit poor Moses against Pharaoh and the immense forces of Egypt. That’s why God says, “Certainly I will be with you,” as if it’s out of the question that He would send him alone.

The same is true in my case. If I go on the Lord’s mission with simple trust in His power and a sincere desire to bring Him glory, it’s certain that He will be with me. His sending me obligates Him to support me. Isn’t that enough? What more could I want? Even if all the angels and archangels were with me, I might fail; but if God is with me, I must succeed. I just need to make sure that I act in a way that honors this promise. I shouldn’t go timidly, halfheartedly, carelessly, or presumptuously. What kind of person should I be when God is with me? In such company, I must be brave and, like Moses, go before Pharaoh without fear.
