Faith Sets the Bow
Whenever I form clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, — Gen 9:14 BSB
Right now, clouds are abundant, but we don’t fear that the world will be destroyed by another flood. We see the rainbow often enough to reassure us. The covenant God made with Noah remains firm, and we have no doubts about it. So why should we think that the troubles darkening our lives now will lead to our destruction? Let’s dismiss these baseless and dishonoring fears.
Faith always sees the rainbow of God’s promise when we face the clouds of affliction. God has a bow that could shoot arrows of destruction, but notice—it’s pointed upward! It’s a bow without an arrow or string, a bow displayed for show, not for war. It’s a bow of many colors, representing joy and delight, not blood-red with slaughter or black with anger. Let’s take courage. God never darkens our sky so much that His covenant is left without a witness. And even if He did, we would trust Him, knowing that He cannot change, lie, or fail to keep His covenant of peace. Until the waters flood the earth again, we have no reason to doubt our God.
