Real Estate in Heaven

You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, knowing that you yourselves had a better and permanent possession. — Heb 10:34 BSB

This is a good assurance. Our possessions here on earth are fleeting and unsubstantial; there is no real substance in them. But God has given us a promise of true, lasting estate in the gloryland, and that promise comes to our hearts with such certainty that we know within ourselves that we have an enduring substance there. Yes, “we have” it even now. The saying goes, “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush,” but we have our bird in the bush and in the hand as well. Heaven is ours even now. We have the title deed to it, we have the down payment of it, and we have the firstfruits of it. We possess heaven in value, in promise, and in principle; and this we know not just by hearing, but “within ourselves.”

Shouldn’t the thought of a better substance in the heavenly realm reconcile us to present losses? We may lose our spending money, but our treasure is safe. We may lose the shadows, but the substance remains, for our Savior lives, and the place He has prepared for us is secure. There is a better land, a better substance, a better promise; and all of this comes to us through a better covenant. Therefore, let us lift our spirits and say to the Lord, “Every day I will bless You and praise Your name forever and ever.”
