Joy for the Cast-Out

You who tremble at His word, hear the word of the LORD: “Your brothers who hate you and exclude you because of My name have said, ‘Let the LORD be glorified that we may see your joy!’ But they will be put to shame.” — Isa 66:5 BSB

This text may not apply to most readers of this little book of promises, but for those it does, the Lord offers encouragement in these words. Let us pray for those who have been unjustly cast out from the communities they love. May the Lord appear to them and bring them joy!

This promise is meant for truly gracious individuals who tremble at the word of the Lord. These people were hated by their brothers and eventually cast out because of their faithfulness and holiness. This must have been deeply painful, especially since they were cast out in the name of religion and supposedly to glorify God. How much evil is done in the name of God! The use of Jehovah’s name to add venom to the bite of the old serpent is a clear example of his cunning.

The appearance of the Lord is the hope of His persecuted people. He comes as the advocate and defender of His elect; and when He does, it means clear deliverance for the God-fearing and shame for their oppressors. O Lord, fulfill this word for those who are being mocked and scorned!
