High Places of Defense

he will dwell on the heights; the mountain fortress will be his refuge; his food will be provided and his water assured. — Isa 33:16 BSB

The person to whom God has given grace to live a blameless life enjoys perfect security.

He lives on high, above the chaos of the world, out of range of the enemy, and close to heaven. His goals and motivations are noble, and he finds great joy in godly companionship. He delights in the eternal mountains of God’s love, where he makes his home.

He is protected by a fortress made of solid rock. The firmest things in the universe are the promises and purposes of our unchanging God, and these are the protection of the obedient believer.

He is provided for by this amazing promise: “Bread will be given to him.” Just as the enemy cannot storm his fortress or tear down its walls, the stronghold cannot be captured by siege or famine. The same God who provided manna in the wilderness will supply everything His people need, even when they are surrounded by enemies who would starve them out.

And what if the water runs dry? That won’t happen. “His water will be sure.” There’s an unending well within the fortress. God makes sure that nothing is lacking. No one can touch the citizens of the true Zion. No matter how fierce the enemy, the Lord will protect His chosen ones.
