Covered and Protected
He will cover you with His feathers; under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and rampart. — Ps 91:4 BSB
What a wonderful comparison! Just like a mother hen protects her chicks and lets them nestle under her wings, the Lord shields His people and allows us to take refuge in Him. Have you ever seen the little chicks peeking out from under the mother’s feathers, chirping contentedly? In the same way, we can hide ourselves in God and experience perfect peace, knowing that He is guarding us.
As we take shelter under God’s wings, we trust Him. It would be strange if we didn’t! How could we doubt when God Himself becomes our shelter, our home, our refuge, and our rest?
Once we’ve taken refuge, we can go out to face life’s battles in His name, still protected by His care. We need both shield and armor, and when we trust God completely, like the chick trusts the hen, we find His truth covering us from head to toe. God cannot lie; He must be faithful to His people, and His promises will always stand. This certainty in God’s truth is the only shield we need. Behind it, we can withstand all the enemy’s attacks.
Come, my soul, take cover under those mighty wings and find rest among the soft feathers! How blessed you are!
