Absolute Assurance
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” — Heb 13:5 BSB
The Lord has said this multiple times in Scripture, repeating it so we can be absolutely certain. Let us never doubt it. The promise itself is powerfully emphatic. In the original language, it includes five negatives, each one completely ruling out the possibility that God would ever leave or forsake any of His people. This precious promise doesn’t mean we won’t face trouble, but it guarantees that we’ll never be abandoned. Even if we must walk through unfamiliar paths, the Lord will always be with us, providing help, guidance, and provision. We don’t need to long for material wealth, for we will always have our God—and God is better than gold. His favor is more valuable than any fortune.
Surely, we ought to be content with what we have, for anyone who has God has more than the world could ever offer. What could we desire beyond the infinite goodness of the Lord?
Come, my heart; since God has promised to never leave or forsake you, pray for the grace to never leave your Lord or forsake His ways, not even for a moment.
