God Only, You Can Trust

Peter said to Him, “Even if all fall away on account of You, I never will.” — Matt 26:33 BSB

"Why," someone may ask, "is this a promise of God?" No, it wasn’t—it was a promise from a man, and that’s why it fell apart. Peter thought he was making a vow he could surely keep, but a promise built only on human determination will fail. The moment temptation came, Peter denied his Master and even swore to prove it.

What is the value of a man’s word? Like a clay pot that shatters with a blow. What is the worth of your own resolution? Like a flower bud that, without God’s care, will wither and fall at the first gust of wind.

Trust a man’s word only to the extent that it can bear the weight.

Rely not at all on your own resolve.

But on God’s promises, you can hang time and eternity, this life and the next, everything you hold dear, and the well-being of your loved ones.

This book of promises is like a checkbook for believers, and this page serves as a reminder of whose name we should trust when we draw on its riches. Rely on Jesus without limit. Do not depend on yourself or anyone else beyond reasonable limits, but place your complete trust in the Lord.
