He Came; He Is Coming

“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.” — Acts 1:11 BSB

Many people are celebrating our Lord’s first coming today, but let’s turn our thoughts to the promise of His second coming. Just as His first advent was certain, His return is just as sure. He who came as a humble servant will undoubtedly come again to receive the reward of His service. He who came to suffer will certainly return to reign.

This is our glorious hope, for we will share in His joy. Today, we are hidden in humility and rejection, just as He was during His time on earth. But when He returns, it will be His great revelation, and we will be revealed with Him. The dead saints will rise at His coming. Those who were slandered and despised will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. The saints will be kings and priests, and their days of mourning will be over. The long rest and unimaginable glory of the millennial reign will more than repay the years of witnessing and warring for Him.

Oh, that the Lord would come! He is coming! He is already on His way, and He is moving swiftly. The sound of His approach should fill our hearts with joy. Ring out, ye bells of hope!
