Evening Brightens into Day

It will be a day known only to the LORD, without day or night; but when evening comes, there will be light. — Zech 14:7 BSB

It’s a surprise when things turn out well, especially when everything seems to point toward darkness. But God often works beyond our fears and greater than our hopes, leaving us amazed and praising His grace. No, it won’t end for us as our hearts fear: the night won’t get darker, but will suddenly turn to day. Let us never lose hope. Even in the darkest times, we should trust in the Lord, who turns the shadow of death into the morning. When hardship seems unbearable, relief is often closest.

This promise helps us to be patient. The light may not come until we’ve exhausted our hope after waiting all day. But while the wicked see the sun set in their day, the righteous will see it rise even in the night. Can we not, with patience, wait for that heavenly light? It may take a while to come, but when it does, it will be worth the wait.

Come, my soul, start singing praises now to the One who will bless you in life and in death, in ways beyond what this world has ever known at its best.
