A Quiet Heart

For the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, has said: “By repentance and rest you would be saved; your strength would lie in quiet confidence—but you were not willing.” — Isa 30:15 BSB

It is always a sign of weakness to fret, worry, and doubt. What do we gain by wearing ourselves down with anxiety? Can we accomplish anything by worrying? Don’t we make ourselves less capable of taking action and making wise decisions? We sink in our struggles when we could float by faith.

Oh, for the grace to be still! Why run around, telling everyone our troubles and making ourselves more distressed with every retelling? Why stay at home, crying out in anguish over fears that may never come true? It’s good to hold our tongue, but it’s even better to quiet our hearts. Oh, to be still and know that Jehovah is God!

Oh, for the grace to trust in God! The Holy One of Israel will protect and deliver His people. He won’t go back on His promises. We can be sure that every word He’s spoken will stand firm, even if the mountains were to crumble. He deserves our trust. If we would just show that trust and find peace in Him, we could be as happy as the saints who stand before His throne.

Come, my soul, return to your rest and lay your head on the chest of the Lord Jesus.
