Confidence Not Misplaced

Because the Lord GOD helps Me, I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set My face like flint, and I know that I will not be put to shame. — Isa 50:7 BSB

These words in prophecy belong to the Messiah, spoken during His obedience unto death, when He gave His back to be struck and His cheeks to those who pulled out His beard. He was confident in divine support, fully trusting in Jehovah.

O my soul, your sorrows are like dust compared to those of your Lord! Can you not believe that the Lord God will help you? Your Lord was in a unique position, as the representative of sinful humanity—our substitute and sacrifice—necessitating that the Father turn away, causing Him to experience spiritual abandonment. You are not bound to cry, “Why have You forsaken me?” If your Savior, even under such duress, still trusted in God, can’t you? He died for you, making it impossible for you to ever be left alone. Therefore, take heart.

In today’s labors or trials, say, “The Lord God will help me.” Go forth boldly. Set your face like a flint, determined that no faintness or shame will hold you back. If God is your helper, who can stand in your way? If you are certain of His omnipotent aid, what burden could be too heavy for you? Begin your day with joy, and let no shadow of doubt come between you and the eternal sunshine.
