Food and Rest

I will tend My flock and make them lie down, declares the Lord GOD. — Ezek 34:15 BSB

Under God’s care, His people are fully nourished. They aren’t fed with empty human “ideas,” but with the solid, life-giving truth of God’s Word. There is real nourishment for the soul when Scripture is applied to the heart by the Holy Spirit. Jesus Himself is the true, life-sustaining food for believers. Here, our Great Shepherd promises to feed us Himself. Even if our earthly shepherds fall short on the Lord’s Day, the Lord never will.

When we are filled with holy truth, our souls find rest. Those who are fed by God are at peace. No enemy can disturb them, no threat can harm them, and no internal worries will rob them of their rest. They will be able to relax and digest the spiritual food they’ve received. The doctrines of grace not only sustain us but also bring us peace. They are what help us both to grow and to rest. If earthly preachers fail to give us peace, we can always look to the Lord for it.

Today, may the Lord feed us from His Word and grant us peace. May this day be filled with meditation and rest, free from foolishness and worry.
