Forget and Forgive

Do not say, “I will avenge this evil!” Wait on the LORD, and He will save you. — Prov 20:22 BSB

Do not be quick to act in anger. Let your emotions cool down before you respond. Acting hastily, especially in anger, will likely lead to unwise decisions and will not reflect the spirit of Jesus. It is far more noble to forgive and let offenses pass. Holding onto anger and plotting revenge only keeps old wounds open and creates new ones. It is better to forget and forgive.

If you feel compelled to act, consider the advice of today’s promise: “Wait on the Lord, and he shall save thee.” This counsel costs nothing but is worth more than gold. Be calm and quiet, and take your grievance to the Lord. Present your concerns to Him, and even this act will bring some relief to your burdened heart. Moreover, God has promised to save you. How He will do it is beyond our understanding, but we can trust that He will.

When the Lord saves you, it will be far better than engaging in petty disputes and getting entangled in the mess of conflict. Let go of your anger, and leave your case with the just Judge of all. Trust in His timing and His justice.
