It Becomes Mutual

What agreement can exist between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.” — 2 Cor 6:16 BSB

What a profound relationship is described here, where each belongs to the other! God is our portion, and we are His. As believers, we find our greatest treasure in God, and He, in turn, considers us His peculiar treasure. This mutual interest is the foundation of our comfort and security.

This relationship leads to mutual consideration. God is always thinking of us, and in response, we should always be thinking of Him. Today, God will work on our behalf; what can we do for Him in return? Our thoughts should be centered on Him, as His thoughts are on us. Let us not be content with just knowing this should be the case, but let it be our reality.

This mutual interest also leads to mutual fellowship. God dwells within us, and we dwell in Him. He walks with us, and we walk with Him. Oh, for the grace to treat the Lord as our God truly deserves—to trust Him, serve Him, love Him, worship Him, and obey Him in spirit and in truth! This is the deepest desire of our hearts. When we reach this level of communion, we will have found our heaven on earth. Lord, help us to know You as our God, for Jesus’ sake.
