Spurgeon's Prayer: A Prayer for the Nation
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His inheritance!
— Psalm 33:12 (BSB)
Revival begins by Christians getting right first and then spills over into the world.
— Charles Spurgeon
Father, as we come before You tonight, we lift up our nation in prayer. We know that righteousness exalts a nation, and so we pray for a revival that will turn hearts back to You. Lord, bless this land, and may it be a place where Your name is honored and Your truth is proclaimed. We long to see our nation rise up in righteousness, with leaders and citizens alike seeking after You.
We pray for those in authority over us, from the Sovereign to the Parliament, and all judges and rulers. Lord, give them wisdom to govern justly, and may they be guided by Your truth. We ask that You would move in their hearts, giving them the desire to serve the people with integrity and righteousness. Father, let them make decisions that reflect Your justice and mercy.
Lord, bless our nation with peace and prosperity, but even more, bless it with a hunger for Your Word. May there be a revival that begins in the hearts of Your people and spills over into every part of society. We ask for Your Spirit to move powerfully, convicting hearts and drawing people to You. May our nation be a place where righteousness prevails and where Your name is glorified.
As we rest tonight, we entrust our nation into Your hands. You alone are sovereign over all, and we trust that Your plans and purposes will prevail. Bless this land, and may we see a revival that turns hearts back to You. Amen.
