Spurgeon's Prayer: A Cry for the City

For I take no pleasure in anyone’s death, declares the Lord GOD. So repent and live!
— Ezekiel 18:32 (BSB)

While others are congratulating themselves, I have to sit humbly at the foot of the cross and marvel that I am saved at all.
— Charles Spurgeon

Heavenly Father, as we come to the end of this day, our hearts are burdened for the multitudes in our cities who do not know You. We cry out to You for the millions who enter no place of worship, who live without acknowledging You, and who even despise the Gospel. Lord, You take no pleasure in the death of anyone, and so we pray that many would repent and live. Have mercy on those who have hardened their hearts toward You and bring them into the light of Your truth.

Father, we ask for a spiritual awakening in our cities. So many live as though this life is all there is, ignoring the eternal realities. We pray that Your Spirit would move powerfully, convicting hearts and drawing people to Christ. Lord, save this city, save this nation, and save people from every corner of the earth. We long to see Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

As we pray for the lost, we also give thanks for our own salvation. We marvel at the grace You have shown us. While others may reject You, we are humbled that You have drawn us to Yourself and given us eternal life. Help us never to take our salvation for granted but to live in constant gratitude and devotion to You.

As we rest tonight, we entrust the spiritual needs of our cities into Your hands. Work in the hearts of the lost, and may many come to know You as their Savior. Thank You, Lord, for the privilege of being part of Your mission. Amen.
