Spurgeon's Prayer: Victory Over Temptation and Doubt
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it.
— 1 Corinthians 10:13 (BSB)
I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages.
— Charles Spurgeon
Gracious Father, we come before You, acknowledging our dependence on Your strength to resist temptation. We know that we are prone to wander, and without Your keeping, we would fall. Lord, help us to be watchful and vigilant, guarding our hearts and minds against the snares of sin. Give us the strength to resist the temptations that come our way, knowing that You are faithful and will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear.
Father, we also pray for deliverance from unbelief. In moments of trial or when our bodies grow faint, we are prone to doubt Your promises. Lord, we cannot bear to grieve Your Holy Spirit with our unbelief. Strengthen our faith, even in the face of adversity, and help us to trust in Your faithful promise. Let us hold fast to Your Word, knowing that You are always with us and will never forsake us.
Lord, we desire not just to walk uprightly before others but to walk in purity before You. May there be nothing in our lives that grieves Your Spirit or vexes the tender love of Christ. We long to live lives that are pleasing in Your sight, free from sin, and full of faith. Cleanse us from every impurity, and help us to walk in the light as You are in the light.
As we face the challenges of this day, we trust in Your keeping power. Deliver us from temptation, strengthen our faith, and help us to live in a way that brings glory to Your name. Amen.
