Spurgeon's Prayer: Deliverance from Sin and Renewed Freedom

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
— John 8:36 (BSB)

Sin may enter the heart and fight for dominion, but it cannot sit upon the throne.
— Charles Spurgeon

Lord, we come before You this evening, seeking deliverance from the power of sin. Though we are no longer slaves to sin, we confess that its pull is strong, and we struggle at times with the desires of the flesh. But we rejoice in Your promise, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” We stand in that freedom tonight, knowing that through Christ, we are no longer bound by sin and death.

Father, we ask that You would break any chains that still linger in our lives. Though we are free, there are areas where sin tries to claim dominion over us. Send Your Holy Spirit to empower us, to break every chain, and to free us from the power of temptation. We long to live as those who are truly free, reflecting the life and purity of Christ in all we do.

Lord, we thank You for the freedom we have in Christ. It is by Your grace and power that we are no longer slaves but children of God. We rejoice in this new life, and we ask that You would help us to walk in that freedom each day. May the life of Christ be evident in us, and may others see the difference that His freedom makes.

As we rest tonight, fill our hearts with gratitude for the life we have in Christ. Let us sleep peacefully, knowing that we are free, that sin no longer has dominion over us, and that we are safe in Your hands. In the morning, help us to rise and live in the full freedom of Christ, walking in holiness and purity. Amen.
