Spurgeon's Prayer: The Peace of Reconciliation

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
— Romans 5:1 (BSB)

Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin? The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.
— Charles Spurgeon

Our gracious Father, we thank You tonight for the peace that comes through reconciliation with You. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, we have been justified by faith, and now we enjoy the peace that surpasses all understanding. We no longer stand as enemies but as beloved children, reconciled to You through the precious blood of Christ. What a joy it is to know that our sins and iniquities are remembered no more!

Lord, we rest in the assurance that You have brought us into an everlasting covenant, a covenant that will never fail. As David once said, “Although my house is not so with God, yet He has made with me an everlasting covenant.” We, too, find comfort in this truth. No matter our circumstances, we can rest in Your promises, knowing that Your covenant is secure, and we are Yours forever.

Tonight, we ask that You deepen this peace within us. May it be a peace that rules our hearts and minds, even in the midst of life’s uncertainties. Let it be a peace that keeps us steadfast, trusting in Your goodness and Your plan. Just as Jesus calmed the winds and waves, may You quiet the storms in our hearts, and give us rest.

Father, we pray that this peace would extend to all areas of our lives. May we find delight in Your will, even when it challenges us, and may we learn to submit joyfully to Your purposes. Help us to rest in You completely, knowing that You are sovereign over all things.

As we lay down to sleep, may we rest in the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, and wake refreshed, ready to continue walking in the joy of reconciliation. Amen.
