Spurgeon's Prayer: Guarding Against Sin

Turn my heart to Your testimonies and not to covetous gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; revive me with Your word.
— Psalm 119:36-37 (BSB)

Sin may be the first to attack us, but grace is the first to renew us.
— Charles Spurgeon

Lord, we come before You, recognizing our constant need for Your protection from sin. We know how easily we can be led astray by the deceptions of this world and by the desires of our own hearts. We ask that You keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, who is the author and perfecter of our faith. He alone heals our wounds and restores our souls.

Father, protect us from the temptations that surround us. Help us to avoid the paths of sin and instead walk in the way of righteousness. We would rather face difficulties than fall into sin, for we know that nothing is more dangerous than being drawn away from You. Turn our hearts away from the worthless things of this world, and preserve our lives according to Your Word.

Lord, we do not want to grieve Your Holy Spirit. Keep us from provoking You with our actions or thoughts. Let us be mindful of the things that would cause us to stumble, and give us the strength to resist temptation. Help us to remain untainted by the world’s false teachings and unholy living, that we may walk as Your holy people, set apart for Your glory.

We pray for purity of heart and mind, that we may not be drawn back into sin or begin to love the things of this world. Keep us on the narrow path that leads to life, and guard us from the snares of the enemy. In all things, may we walk in the purity that You desire, honoring You with our lives. Amen.
