Spurgeon's Prayer: A Heart Captivated by Christ
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
— Colossians 3:2 (BSB)
If Christ be anything, He must be everything.
— Charles Spurgeon
Father, we come before You, asking that You captivate our hearts with the love of Christ. We long to love Him more deeply and to be consumed by the sound of His name. May His name be sweet to us, and may we never grow tired of speaking it. Lord, grant us a deeper affection for Jesus, that our hearts may be fully devoted to Him.
We pray that You would grant us every grace that we need—faith, love, hope, gentleness, patience, and kindness. Help us to grow in these virtues, that we may reflect more of Christ in our lives. Let our love for others be genuine, rooted in the love You have shown us. We ask that You fill us with the fruits of the Spirit, that we may live lives that bring glory to Your name.
Lord, help us to set our minds on things above, not on earthly things. May our hearts long for heavenly treasures, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Let us not be distracted by the cares of this world, but help us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. May every part of our nature be saturated with Your love, and may our highest thoughts be directed toward You.
Fill us with a sense of Your presence, Lord, that our hearts may overflow with joy and gratitude. Help us to live with eternity in mind, always longing for more of You and for the day when we will see You face to face. Amen.
