Spurgeon's Prayer: Praising the Wonders of Calvary

But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
— Romans 5:8 (BSB)

It is not your hold of Christ that saves you, but His hold of you.
— Charles Spurgeon

Lord, this morning we praise You for the wonders of Calvary. Your love amazes us, for while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. You saw us in the ruins of the Fall, yet Your sovereign love still reached out to save us. Blessed be the God of the Eternal Council Chamber and the Everlasting Covenant, who gave us grace in Christ even before You spread the starry skies.

We also bless You as the God of our redemption. You loved us so much that You gave Your Son, who gave Himself for us. He offered His life to redeem us from all iniquity, setting us apart as His own special people, eager to do good works. How can we ever fully express our gratitude for the free grace and sacrificial love You have shown us?

The wonders of Calvary never cease to grow more marvelous in our eyes. We think of Jesus, who washed us from our sins in His own blood, and we are filled with awe and adoration. Lord, thank You for redeeming us, for loving us even when we were unlovable. Help us live today with hearts overflowing with gratitude for the cross, walking in the freedom You have given us.
