Spurgeon's Prayer: Restoring Those in Trouble and Despair

The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.
— Psalm 34:18 (BSB)

God’s mercy is so great that you may sooner drain the sea of its water, or deprive the sun of its light, than diminish the great mercy of God.
— Charles Spurgeon

Heavenly Father, we come before You tonight, lifting up those who are in great trouble and despair. You are the God of all comfort, and we ask that You draw near to the brokenhearted, giving them the strength and courage they need to carry on. For those who are despondent, Lord, we ask that You sweetly comfort and cheer them with Your presence, reminding them that You are close to the crushed in spirit.

Lord, there are many who have erred and are now suffering because of their own sins. In Your great mercy, bring them back to Yourself and heal their wounds. You are the Good Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to seek out the one who is lost, and we pray that You would restore those who have wandered from Your path. Let them experience Your grace anew and lead them into the way of righteousness once again.

Father, for those who are longing for holiness and usefulness in Your kingdom, we ask that You grant them the desires of their hearts. Guide them into paths of service, and let them walk in the joy of knowing that they are fulfilling the purpose You have for them. Strengthen them in their pursuit of holiness, and encourage them with the knowledge that You are working in them for Your good pleasure.

As we rest tonight, we ask that You bring peace to troubled hearts, hope to those in despair, and joy to those who are weary. Thank You, Lord, for being close to the brokenhearted and for always hearing our prayers.
