Spurgeon's Prayer: A Heart of Holiness
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
— Psalm 51:10 (BSB)
Holiness is not the way to Christ. Christ is the way to holiness.
— Charles Spurgeon
Heavenly Father, we come to You tonight, asking for a clean heart and a right spirit. We are grateful for the salvation You have given us, but we know that there is still work to be done in our hearts. Lord, we ask that You perfect Your work within us. Purify our hearts and remove any hidden sin or pride that we may not even be aware of.
If there is anything in us that clings to the things of this world, or any idolatry that has crept into our hearts, we ask that You remove it. Search us, O God, and know our hearts. Cleanse us from anything that is not pleasing to You. We do not want to be content with just being forgiven; we long for holiness in every part of our lives.
Lord, help us to live in such a way that brings glory to Your name. Keep us from the temptations of sin, and give us strength to walk in purity and truth. Whether in our families, workplaces, or communities, may we reflect the character of Christ in all we do.
As we rest tonight, we pray for Your continued work in our hearts. Create in us a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. Let us wake up tomorrow with a renewed desire to live in holiness and to serve You with all our hearts.
