Spurgeon's Prayer: The Grace to Trust in God's Refusals
But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.
— 2 Corinthians 12:9 (BSB)
God denies us nothing that is good for us. He grants us everything that is necessary.
— Charles Spurgeon
Father, we come before You this morning with grateful hearts for the wisdom You show in the ways You answer our prayers. We thank You not only for the times You have said "yes" but also for the times You have said "no." In our human weakness, we do not always understand why certain requests go unanswered, but we trust in Your wisdom. You have denied us nothing that would have been good for us, and we thank You for protecting us from what might have harmed us.
Lord, give us the grace to accept Your refusals as acts of love. Help us to see that Your “no” is often a greater blessing than the “yes” we sought. Teach us to trust in Your perfect will, knowing that You work all things together for our good. We may not always receive what we ask for, but we always receive what is best for us, according to Your divine plan.
Father, as we face challenges today, help us to rest in the sufficiency of Your grace. We know that Your power is made perfect in our weakness, and we ask for the strength to trust in Your care. Let us find peace in knowing that You are enough, that Your grace is more than sufficient to carry us through every trial. May we walk forward with confidence, knowing that You are with us and that Your love never fails. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
