Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” — 1 Pet 5:5 BSB
What is humility? It’s not thinking poorly of ourselves or pretending to be humble for a purpose. True humility is the spirit that is always ready to use its best abilities and resources in the humblest acts of love. At the heart of humility is love. When we truly love others, we take an interest in them and are willing to serve them in any way they need, no matter how difficult, costly, or lowly the task might be. We don’t think ourselves too good for the service, nor consider any possession too valuable to give in their behalf.
It’s not a person’s lowly position that makes them humble. One can be proud while living in obscurity. Humility is a matter of the heart, not the station.
