Again Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you.” — John 20:21 BSB
The Son of God came to live in human form so that people could see God. Jesus said, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.” All the love, gentleness, patience, compassion, purity, truth, and righteousness that people saw in Jesus were revelations of what God is like.
Now Christ sends us into the world to reveal God to others. We are to show God’s character through our lives—our disposition, spirit, and temper should reflect His qualities. If someone asks what God is like, we should be able to say, humbly yet truthfully, “I am trying to be like God. He lives in me, and His qualities are reflected in my life. Look at me, and you will see a glimpse of what God is like.”
We may feel that the beauty of God shines only dimly in us, but we cannot escape the truth that if we belong to Christ, He lives in us. Paul said, “Imitate me, as I imitate Christ.” We must strive to live in a way that others can follow our example and see Christ in us.
