Co-Workers with Christ
Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the brim. “Now draw some out,” He said, “and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, — John 2:7-8 BSB
The role of the servants in this miracle was important. They had to carry the water, fill the vessels, and then serve the wine to the guests. In this way, they worked alongside Jesus in the miracle. Similarly, Jesus calls His followers to help Him in blessing the world. We can’t do much, but if we bring what little we have to Him, He can turn it into something amazing. Moses had only a rod, but with it, he performed wonders. The disciples had only five barley loaves, but Jesus used them to feed thousands. The water the servants carried, with Jesus' blessing, became the wine for the wedding.
Jesus often passes His blessings to others through human hands. Salvation is God’s work alone, but the ministry of sharing it is given to us. The blessings of mercy only reach the lost through those who have been saved.
At the same time, the water the servants carried was just common water, but with Jesus’ touch, it became wine. This is how it always works when we obey Christ’s commands. Even our most ordinary work can have heavenly results. No effort we make in His service is ever wasted. The most mundane tasks we perform—at work, at home, or anywhere else—are transformed into something eternal when done for Christ. What seems like simple, routine work can become a blessing to others and ourselves.
