He Went about Doing Good

But Jesus answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns so I can preach there as well, for that is why I have come.” — Mark 1:38 BSB

Jesus went about doing good, and He didn’t limit His blessings to one place. He sought to reach as many souls as possible. He didn’t wait for people to come to Him—He took the message of the gospel to their very doors. By doing this, He showed us that the gospel is for all people, not just for a select group. He also taught us to make the most of our lives and opportunities, spreading the blessings of grace as far as we can and sharing the good news of God’s love with as many people as possible. He wants His Church to keep preaching the gospel to the “next towns” until everyone has heard the message.

Some Christians think they are too busy to set aside time for prayer. Their work occupies them in the morning, the pressures of the day leave them with no quiet moment, and evening engagements take up their time. Jesus’ example reminds us that we must make time for communion with God if we expect Him to bless us.

Jesus’ life on earth was a model of true service. He was always moving from place to place, eager to share the blessings of His grace and love with as many people as possible. He seemed to be in a hurry, knowing that His time on earth was short and that there was much to do before He returned to the Father. He didn’t want to leave any town unvisited, or any person untouched by His love.

This image of Jesus’ tireless work should inspire us. We are here to be a blessing to others, carrying a message from God to His children and spreading the gifts of love, help, and comfort. Time is short, and what we do, we must do quickly. We should move from one person to another, sharing the gifts God has given us to scatter.
