For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. — Heb 4:15-16 BSB
What heart can imagine or tongue recount the daily, hourly triumphs of the Lord Jesus Christ’s all-conquering grace? We see only a fraction of what he, as King on his throne, accomplishes daily, yet even that is enough to know that he lives at God’s right hand to save and bless.
What a multitude of needy petitioners constantly surround his throne! What urgent needs, sorrows, and burdens he answers every moment! What broken hearts he heals, what wounded consciences he soothes, what countless prayers he hears, and what earnest petitions he grants! What grace, kindness, patience, compassion, mercy, love, and power does this Almighty Sovereign display! No circumstance is too insignificant, no petitioner too unimportant, no case too difficult, and no need too great for him to address. There is no seeker too persistent, no beggar too ragged, no debtor too deep in debt for him to notice and help.
From his throne of grace, his all-seeing eye views all, his almighty hand holds all, and his loving heart embraces all those whom the Father gave him in the covenant, those whom he redeemed with his blood, and those whom the Holy Spirit has brought to life by his power. The hopeless, the helpless, the outcasts no one cares for, the tempest-tossed, the weary, the mourning in Zion, the bereaved widow, the orphan, the sick in body and heart, those racked with pain, the dying—what a crowd of needy souls surround his throne! Each one in need of a glance from his eye, a word from his lips, a touch from his hand.
O, if only we could see the extent of his grace, if only we could understand what his grace is doing in and for us, we would have far greater, more exalted views of the reign of grace now exercised by Zion’s enthroned King!
