We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, — Heb 6:19 BSB

Anchors come in different sizes. If you visit the Queen’s Dockyard, you’ll see anchors for small boats and anchors for massive ships. All anchors, though, are made the same way and for the same purpose. The small anchor that holds a boat is just as much an anchor as the larger one that holds a massive ship. In the same way, there is hope in the heart of a spiritual babe. Though that hope may be as small as the anchor of a boat, it holds the babe just as firmly. As the Lord increases our hope, He increases the size of the anchor, and as He enlarges the anchor, He enlarges the vessel—making the ship and anchor always proportionate. As He increases the size of the ship, He also increases its burden.

Thus, as hope grows, it takes a stronger hold within the veil, drawing deeper into God’s presence. It grasps more firmly onto God’s covenant promises, His electing love, and His unchanging purposes. Haven’t you, at times, felt your hope grow to the point where it almost reaches the “full assurance of hope,” with barely a cloud between you and God? In those moments, you’ve believed you would sail triumphantly into the harbor of peace, and with those feelings in your heart, you could even part with life itself, falling into the embrace of your God.
