Send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me. Let them bring me to Your holy mountain, and to the place where You dwell. — Ps 43:3 BSB
A spiritually alive person cannot bear the idea of standing still—having no spiritual work going on within—and even less the idea of going backward. They want to move forward. Often dissatisfied with their spiritual state, they are painfully aware of how little they know, the shallowness of their progress, and the ignorance and blindness that still persist. With the weight of their shortcomings from the past, helplessness in the present, and uncertainty about the future, they long to move forward in the strength of the Lord. They seek to be led, guided, and kept not by their own wisdom, but by the entrance of divine light and truth into their soul. The mercy seat is often clouded, and God seems hidden from them. The truth feels obscured, and they can’t seem to find their way to Christ or perceive the path of life. They see so few signs of grace in their soul and feel the strong presence of sin and corruption, finding more things against them than for them. This often causes them to stagger in their faith, wondering if they are truly in the grace of God or if they are just a hypocrite in Zion, never having even received the beginning of wisdom.
