Man's Way! God's Direction
A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. — Prov 16:9 BSB
We often justify our actions and believe them to be right, but we are prone to self-deception. We must use sanctified wisdom and prayerfully consider our steps. First, pray for guidance; then weigh the pros and cons; seek counsel from trusted friends; ensure your motives are pure and that no selfish or wrong desires cloud your judgment. Then make your decision, asking God to stop you from anything harmful or foolish. If your eye is single—focused on God—your entire body will be full of light.
It is wise to use our judgment and make careful decisions. When Samuel sent Saul on his way, he said, “Do as the occasion demands.” Likewise, Peter considered his situation and then went to Mary’s house. But even as we make decisions, God’s purposes are always at work. He allows room for our choices, but ultimately, our plans must align with His will.
Commit your plans and works to God. Roll your burdens onto Him, trusting Him to make things right. There is no use in worrying over past mistakes. We cannot undo them, but we can ask God to bring good out of them. He will correct our errors and compensate for our failures. Let God’s hand guide your steps. If you find it impossible to settle a matter, hand it over to Him entirely and let Him take responsibility.
Let us live in a way that pleases God (Proverbs 16:7). St. Paul urged the believers to walk in a way that pleased God, and so must we. Jesus said, “I am the Way: Follow Me!”
Prayer
Lead us, O God, along paths we have not known. Make the darkness light before us, straighten the crooked places, and smooth the rough ways. Let Your angel guide us into the freedom of Your children. Amen.
