The elect are safe, for their righteousness is rooted in Christ’s atonement, not their own merit.

Spurgeon’s Daily Help
"Who can bring any charge against God’s elect?" What a blessed challenge! How unanswerable it is! Every sin of the elect was placed on the great Champion of our salvation, and He carried it away through His atonement. There is no sin in God’s book against His people. When the guilt of sin was removed,
so was the punishment. For the Christian, there is no strike from God’s angry hand—not even a single frown of justice. The believer may be disciplined by the Father, but God the Judge has nothing to say to the Christian except, "I have absolved you: you are acquitted."

The Spurgeon Birthday Book
October 24
The sky darkened, storm clouds gathered like armies preparing for battle, and the thunder of Heaven shook the everlasting hills. We hurried home, fearing the storm, but it didn’t strike our sheltered place; instead, it spent its fury on the mountains.
In the same way, the righteous wrath of God was poured out on the Lord Jesus, who, like a mighty mountain peak, bore the brunt of the storm so that we, who would have been destroyed by it, might live in perfect peace.
